NPFL week 20 review: Lobi extend lead at top, MFM end Tornadoes’ run

Lobi Stars of Makurdi extended their lead at the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) to five points after a 1-0 win against Sunshine Stars of Akure on Sunday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the match played at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi saw Kehinde Adeyemi scored the decisive goal 17 minutes from time.

The log leaders are on 37 points, while Sunshine Stars are still at the relegation zone on 19th position with 21 points.

At the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, Kano Pillars maintained second position in the table following a 1-1 draw against hosts Heartland who are rooted at the bottom of the table.

Ekechukwu Nwadike gave the hosts the lead in the 27th minute, while Nyima Nwagua levelled scores for Pilars in the 61st minute.

Niger Tornadoes relinquished third position to Katsina United after going down 0-3 against MFM at the Agege Stadium in Lagos and also putting an end to their nine-game unbeaten streak in the process.

Sikiru Olatunbosun got a brace for the Olukoya Boys in the game, while substitute Chijoke Akuneto scored the other goal as they moved to an impressive 10th position on the NPFL log.

Destiny Ashadi scored the only goal from the spot as Katsina United beat champions Plateau United 1-0 at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina.

The result meant Katsina United moved to third, while the champions slipped to fifth.

In Jos, Enugu Rangers extended their unbeaten run against Wikki Tourists to seven games after holding their hosts to a 1-1 draw.

Usman Many put Wikki ahead after 14 minutes, while Tope Olusesi equalised for the Flying Antelopes 11 minutes before the break.

Enugu Rangers are 6th on the log, while the Bauchi-based club side are 15th.

FC IfeanyiUbah beat Go Round 2-1 in Nnewi with Ekene Awazie scoring for the hosts, while Chidi Nwachukwu netted the only goal for Go Round.

The Anambra Warriors are now on 12th, while Go Round dropped to 16th on the log.

Also, Kwara United beat Yobe Desert Stars 2-1 in Ilorin courtesy of goals by Segun Alebiosu and Sunday Chinedu, with Chinedu Ohanachom getting Yobe Desert Stars’ only goal of the game.

The Ilorin-based club side still languish at the relegation zone on 18th, while Yobe Desert Stars dropped to 14th.

Rivers United and Abia Warriors game at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt ended in a goalless draw as the hosts dropped to 7th, while Abia Warriors maintained their 11th position.

Nasarawa United beat El-Kanemi Warriors 2-0 courtesy Ikechukwu Nwani’s brace as the hosts moved to the 13th spot, while Maiduguri-based club side slipped into the relegation zone in 17th.

A total of 17 goals were scored in nine matches on match day 20 with six home wins and three draws recorded.
