A 23-year-old applicant, Michael Olaniran, was on Friday arraigned in an Epe Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly breaking into a house with intent to steal.

Olaniran, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge, bordering on attempt to commit felony, burglary and entering a residence with intent to steal.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Vincent Ikwuekwe, said Olaniran committed the offences on April 25, at 10.00 a.m. at Jibril Estate, Ajah area of Lagos State.
Ikwuekwe alleged that the accused broke into the apartment of one Miss Justine Ukaegbu, and attempted to steal her valuables.
“She caught him in her bedroom, going through her things, but before she could raise an alarm, he escaped through the ceiling.
“We were able to apprehend the suspect because she identified him as a resident of the estate,” he alleged.
According to Ikwuekwe, the offences contravened Sections 308, 310 and 406 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the law prescribes seven-year jail term for the offence of burglary on conviction.
The Magistrate, Mrs S.A. Gbajumo-Ayoku, granted the accused bail in the sum of N150,000, with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned the case until May 11 for further hearing.
