Katsina State Government says it has spent N10 million to expand the Daura Metropolitan Council water supply to ensure availability of the commodity in the area.
Alhaji Musa Maaruf, the council’s Director of Water and Sanitation (WATSAN), made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Daura.
Maaruf said that the project was facilitated by Alhaji Nasir Yahaya, the member representing Daura constituency in the State House of Assembly.
He also said that the project was executed by the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs in collaboration with the Katsina State water board.
According to him, the affected communities include Tawalala, Filin Polo, Gurjiya, Shaiskawa, Rahamawa, Old prison and Kwari, all within the town.
“The project involves the reticulation of the five-km water pipe, rehabilitation of boreholes and distilling of culverts and water ways.
“We have also rehabilitated 15 boreholes in the affected communities.
“The project is aimed at boosting water supply, especially considering the rapid increase in the number of people living in the communities.
“We are committed to increasing access and consumption of safe and clean water.’’
The director commended the state government over its regular water supply project across the 34 local government areas in the state.
Maaruf noted that thousands of boreholes and several water dams had been provided to increase access to potable water for consumption and agriculture.
NAN reports that the state government was currently expending N450 million on the dredging and embankment of the five million capacity dam in Dabiram district in Daura local government area.
