Supertendent of Police Adejobi Okumuyiwa of the Lagos State Command has noted why people get missing than being kidnapped in Nigeria.

Adejobi said this members of the association of transporters at the annual Police and You meeting, organised by the Junior Chamber’s International in Asero Motor park in Abeokuta.

SP Olumuyiwa noted that people get missing because of their ignorance and attitude towards security.

His words “People get missing than being kidnapped because of our attitude towards security. Kidnappers kidnap for ransom but the case of missing persons is very wide and broad.”

“Someone can get missing for ritual purpose and never to return, abductors can still release a kidnapped person after ransom has been paid.”

“We don’t care about what is happening around us because we believe security business is meant for law enforcement agencies alone, we don’t care about security watch because we don’t love one another”

Adejobi also gave analysis that more than 10,462 people get missing annually and about 2 per cent of them get back to their people,they don’t just get back but get back with one injury on the other.

He added that God made commandment for mankind to protect us. There are some things we do that we don’t see as crime but are very offensive”.

He therefore advised that Nigerians should stop cursing police because those curses comes back to them

“Nigerians curse police too much that it comes back to them, that is when you hear that police had shot someone to death and they say it is accidental discharge”

“There is nothing like accidental discharged in police, shooting is shooting”

He however urged them to be security conscious and always pray for security agencies to make the society progress.
