Boko Haram members at a gathering

Ninety-four students are missing following suspected Boko Haram attack on Government Girls Secondary School Dapchi on Monday evening, Abuja based Daily Trust newspaper is reporting.

The newspaper quoted a source in the school as confirming that the number of missing students was established in the afternoon after a head count.

“After the roll call, 610 out the total number of 704 students have returned. We are still searching for the remaining 94 students”; the source was quoted as saying.

But he added that he cannot confirm if the students were abducted by the insurgents because many of them have scaled the fence and escaped into the bushes before the attackers get to their hostels.

According to him, some parents had reported to the school authorities that their children, who fled into the bushes, had returned home safely.

“We are calling on parents to help the school update its list by reporting immediately their children arrived home safely”, he said.

The newspaper quoted the the Yobe State Police Commissioner Abdumaliki Sunmonu as saying no case of abduction had been established yet.

The State Government has already ordered closure of the school while the students have vowed not to return until there is improvement in security around the premises of the institution
