The Standing Committee on Education of the Edo State House of Assembly, has commended the management of the Edo University Iyamho, on the recent ranking of the University as the 3rd best out of the 160 universities in Nigeria by the NUC under the Open Educational Resources (OER).

Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Foly Ogedengbe, gave the commendation Thursday, when he led members of the Committee on an inspection visit to the University.

He told the management of the University that their visit was to help them ascertain challenges facing the institution, in order to solve them.

The Committee Chairman, Mr. Ogedegbe who spoke for the others, congratulated the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor and his management team, for the laudable achievement.

He said; “It is not always easy to come 3rd among Nigerians universities for a school that is barely two years in existence. It is a record and we can only urge you to continue to do that thing which you are doing that has brought the good result.

“I also want to congratulate the Acting VC, because he has shown that he is capable to manage the University, as members of the management have shown that they are able to sustain the facilities they met and also improve on it.

“I want to commend them for some work they are doing without a third party intervention, and also the recruitment process is fantastic and that is why they are ranked third best University in Nigeria.”

Earlier, while welcoming members of the Committee to his office, the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor, described the institution as a world-class University.

He also used the opportunity to thank the Committee for informing the House about the NUC ranking.

“I want to say it is a major milestone coming within two years of our coming on board and for us, it is an indication that we are actually doing something right.”

“I believe we are doing something right which has already been applauded, we want to promise that we will continue to move in that direction and hopefully, in the near future, we will not just be number three, we will be number one,” Aluyor said.

Members of the Committee undertook an inspection of facilities in the University, including all ongoing and completed infrastructural projects.
