Ahead of the March 3, Local Government Elections in Edo, security chiefs on Wednesday met in Benin to synergise for a hitch-free election in the state.

Edo State Commissioner of Police, (CP) Johnson Kokumo, told newsmen at the end of the meeting that the meeting was to enable security chiefs brainstorm in order to have smooth local government elections.

According to him, adequate plans have been put in place to ensure free, fair, secured and orderly elections, devoid of breakdown of law and order.

He said that adequate arrangements had been made to ensure safety of lives and properties during the elections both in the hinter lands, on land and in the water and water ways.

However, he declined to disclose the number of personnel the command would deploy on that day, but said that security men would be deployed to all the polling units.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting which lasted more than two hours was held at the office of the Commissioner of Police.

NAN also reports that in attendance was the Commandant of the 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army represented by Lt Col Ibrahim Yusuf.

Also in attendance are State Director of Department of State Service (DSS), Mr Haliru Ibrahim, Commandant, NSCDC, Mr Makinde Ayinla, and State Comptroller, Nigeria Immigration Service, Eniolorunda Kayode.

Others are the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Samuel Odukoya as well as the Chief Security Officer to Edo Government, Mr Haruna Yusuf.
