Attempt by the accused ritualist and Murder suspect Ifeanyi Dike to feign mental illness to evade trial as a sane person failed at a High Court sitting in Port Harcourt on Friday.
High Court presided over by Justice Adolphus Enebeli while dismissing the plea of Ifeanyi Dike that he is mentally sick and needs urgent a psychiatric medical attention said the plea was a hoax and a well scripted pretence to evade trial.
Justice Enebeli said Ifeanyi Dike is pretending to be mentally unstable to evade trial insisting that the accused was 200 Level student of the University of Port Harcourt who personally wrote his statement with the Police at the time he was arrested for killing late Chikamso Victory last year.
Justice Enebeli described the application by Dike’s lawyer as” hoax, wasteful and unmeritorious”
Dike’s Lawyer Lisinna Ameegua ,however, said he will continue to defend his client despite the initial legal hiccup.
Recall that Ifeanyi Dike on January 12 shouted incoherent sound in court and slumped making it impossible for him to take his plea.
The Court adjourned till February 8, 9 and 16 for further hearing.
Dike was arrested for killing an eight year old Miss Chikamso Victory after raping and cut off her vital organs for money ritual.
He later escaped from Police custody in Port Harcourt and fled to Jos,Plateau state where he was rearrested after Rivers Police Commissioner, Zaki Ahmed ,placed N1million bounty for anybody who profer useful information leading to his arrest.
