Muideen Agboola, who is standing trial for dealing in hard drugs, on Monday entered a plea of guilty at a Federal High Court, Ibadan.

“ I plead guilty to the offence and I beg this court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing me,” said Agboola, who trafficked 150 grammes of hemp.

Testifying before Justice Joyce Abdulmaleek, Agboola, who said he did not have money to pay for a lawyer to defend him, blamed poor economy for his action.

Abdulmaleek, however, remanded him in prison and adjourned the case until Feb. 7 for judgment.

Earlier, Mr Raphael Himinkaiye, Counsel to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Oyo State Command, said Agboola, who was arraigned for a charge of unlawful dealing in hemp.

Himinkaiye said  the accused committed the offence on Dec. 5, 2017 at Sanusi Village on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

According to the prosecutor, Agboola was arrested with a bag containing 150 grammes of hemp.

The offence contravened Section 11 (C ) of the NDLEA Act, Laws of the Federation 2004.

Meanwhile, Justice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel of Federal High Court 1 has sentenced two men — Aminu Sani and Tsalha Abdulah — to three years imprisonment each for unlawfully transporting 110.6 kg of hemp.

The duo committed the crime sometime in December 2017 and had pleaded guilty to the charge.

Sani and Abdulah were both apprehended at Kara-Sabo area of Ogbomoso with 17 big bags containing 110.6 kg of hemp.
