In an efforts to curb the menace of smuggling of products from outside Nigeria by some unscrupulous and desperate members of the public who are determined to enrich themselves illegimately to the detriment of other Nigerians, men of the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun state Command have succeeded in intercepting some smuggled products around Idiroko axis only.

The products which includes 276kegs of petrol, 9 drums and 32kegs of diesel and 5 drums of kerosene valued at #67, 247, 153 million within two weeks in idiroko axis of Ogun area command.

The Comptroller of Customs in the State Sani Madugu made this known in ldiroko Ogun area command on Friday while speaking with journalists about the achievements of the command in the last two weeks. He confirmed that the achievement is to mark the international customs day in which customs organization has chosen to secure business environment for development as the theme for 2018 celebration.

Madugu noted that his command with other critical stakeholders will realize the goal of promoting activities that secures and create an enabling environment for business to thrive.

Also in line with the policy thrust of the present leadership of customs for zero tolerance to corruption chief superintendent of customs, Jamairi A.M. and Superintendent of customs Yau .H. were rewarded a letter of commendation for diligence and dedication to duty.

Madugu also noted that four suspects who smuggled rice with motorcycle were also arrested and they are in the custom custody and they will be charged to court after thorough investigation.

Meanwhile, Madugu promised to explore more intelligence and surveillance in monitoring filling stations along the border areas so as to avert any form of diversion.

He therefore enjoined members of the public to be patriotic by virtue of availing the service with plausible information so as to assist in mitigating the menace of smuggling petroleum products and other prohibited items.
