Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State on Wednesday called on all political leaders regardless of their political leanings to forge a common front in tackling issues bordering on security and the overall development of the state.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Francis Agbo, quoted the Governor as having made the call when the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Konbowei Benson, led the leadership and members to pay a new year visit to him at his country home in Toru Orua, Sagbama Local government area on Wednesday.

He admonished the political class not to politicize issues of security and development, but to unite after elections have been concluded for the sake of promoting, peace, and stability of the state.

While applauding the exemplary leadership of the House, the State’s Chief Executive stressed the need for the three arms of government and the people to make concerted efforts towards the enthronement of enduring peace across the communities.

Governor Dickson stressed that the State Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Benson, had witnessed a paradigm shift in the relationship between the House and and the executive arm.

Dickson stated further that his administration had achieved so much because of the synergy between the Executive and Legislative arms. The Governor thanked the lawmakers for the visit stressing his family and the Toru-Orua community is eternally grateful to the House of Assembly for the solidarity!

The Governor who also gave the assurance that year 2018 would usher in greater prosperity and peace, promised that the state government would work assiduously to ensure the completion of more developmental projects in the state.

Earlier in his remarks, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Konbowei Benson, had said he led the leadership and members of the House to pay a new year visit to the Governor to felicitate with him in the spirit of the festive season.

Rt. Hon. Benson emphasized that the visit was to further foster peace, harmony and strengthen the existing cordial relationship existing between the two critical arms of government.

According to him, “The visit at such a festive period was to seek ways of continually promoting good governance for the welfare and wellbeing of Bayelsans.”

Rt. Hon. Benson commended Governor Dickson ‘for matching words with action,’ which he said was evident particularly in the education, health and infrastructural sectors where he had recorded landmark achievements.

Highpoint of the visit was the presentation of a new year card to Governor Dickson by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Abraham Ngobere on behalf of the legislators!
