Liberians joined the global Christian community on Monday to celebrate Christmas amid preparations for Tuesday presidential run-off election.

Majority of Liberians are Christians, accounting for 85.5 per cent of an estimated total population of 4.5 million, according to the country’s 2008 National Census.

Muslims constitute 12.2 per cent of the population, while traditional indigenous religions are practiced by 0.5 per cent.

The remaining 1.8 per cent subscribe to no religion.
