Nigerian Army sacks Boko Haram war commander

Major General Attahiru:sacked

The Nigerian Army has removed Maj. Gen. Attahiru Ibrahim as the Theatre Commander of the Operation Lafiya Dole, the code name for Nigeria’s military special operation against the Boko Haram insurgent group in North East Nigeria.

Punch reports that Director, Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Sani Usman, confirmed the sack of the Ibrahim.

Maj. Gen. Rogers Nicholas former Chief of Logistics at the Army Headquarters, Abuja has been appointed to replace him.

The removal of Ibrahim, followed recent reverses suffered by the Army in the prosecution of the war against Boko Haram in North East Nigeria

Ibrahim who took over from Maj. Gen. Lucky Irabor in May 2017 also failed to capture the Boko Haram terrorists’ leader, Abubakar Shekau.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai had in August issued a 40-day ultimatum to the Operation Lafiya Dole Theatre Command to capture Shekau, but he failed to do so when the deadline expired.
