Jonathan: I’m working to ensure PDP regains power in 2019

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said his priority is to ensure that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP regains power in the 2019 general election.

The former President spoke when Chief Olabode George and his campaign team paid him a courtesy visit in his country home in Otuoke, Bayelsa State on Tuesday.

George, a former deputy national chairman of PDP is currently on a nationwide campaign for the PDP chairmanship election in December 9.

A statement by Bode George Media Office after the meeting quoted the ex-President as accepting responsibility for PDP’s loss of 2015 general elections and as such, he has the burden of ensuring that the becomes strong enough to win the next elections.

“Whether I like it or not, I must take responsibility for the defeat because I led the party to the election. The only thing that will make me sleep well is to ensure that the PDP comes back to power,” the former President who said he was already working with other stakeholders to ensure that the former Nigeria’s ruling party returned to power in 2019 said.

Jonathan said he preferred to work from the back seat and advised the party to begin to take the right steps in the right direction to regain the confidence of the electorate and not to repeat the mistakes of the past.
