Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers on Friday urged Nigerian leaders to have the fear of God and respect the rule of law, to ensure stability in the country.
Wike, who made the remark when the Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship paid him a courtesy call in Port Harcourt, noted that the country needed special prayers to remain stable.
He decried the refusal of some top government functionaries to obey the rule of law.
Wike stressed that without the intervention of God, the country might not record giant strides in its quest for rapid development.
He noted that the withdrawal of the security details of Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra demonstrated a fundamental disregard problem of lawlessness under the present dispensation.
“If we don’t eek the face of God, there will be no hope; leaders should fear God and respect the rule of law; if God does not intervene in Nigeria, the future is not bright.’’
‘’Nigeria requires prayers; what happened in Anambra State is a coup against a constitutionally elected governor.”
Wike, however, reiterated the resolve of his administration to continue to collaborate with the Church as it is the pillar of the state.
He lauded the Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship for promoting unity among Christians, saying that with unity, the society would experience rapid growth.
Meanwhile, Police authorities on Thursday in Abuja denied withdrawing the security details of the Anambra governor.
They said that only the ADC and Chief Security Officer to the governor were invited to a stakeholders parley with the Inspector-General of Police on the need for a peaceful election.
The Police further said that a few hours after the parley attended by all other security agencies, the ADC and CSO to the governor returned to Government House.
Earlier in his remarks, Mr Ifeanyi Odedo, the National President and International Director of Full Gospel Businessmen (Nigeria), said that the organization’s prayer was for Wike to excel beyond expectations.
Odedo thanked God for choosing a man like Wike to solve the developmental challenges and reposition Rivers State.
“There is a great rejoicing in the land; the enemy might not be happy, but the truth is that you are doing a great work and we appreciate you.
”We want to identify with the laudable efforts Your Excellency has undertaken in this state.
‘’We thank God for being faithful to this state and for raising a man like you, who has become a transformer,’’ he said.
