Chief Patrick Oyinu, the Chairman of Akwanga Branch of College of Education Pensioners Association, has raised the alarm over the selective payment of pensioners by the institution.

Oyinu made the allegation on Wednesday in Akwanga when presenting a memo before the fact finding committee investigating activities of the college.

He called on the committee to thoroughly investigate the allegation to ascertain the truth.

“The problem is that selective payment of dead gratuity and pension to pensioners should be discouraged in all ramifications, the authority responsible for the payment of pension and gratuity should follow first come first serve principle.

“They should embrace the policy of ‘change begins with me’ by ensuring that payment of pensioners should based on who retired first and who retired last in the interest of justice and peace,” he said.

Oyinu called on the state government to increase the amount of money sent to the school for payment of pension, adding that the monthly N3 million subvention for the payment of pensioners in the institution was grossly inadequate.

The association chairman called for regular payment of pension to pensioners in order to improve their standard of living.

Responding, Alhaji Umar Muhammad Sani, the Chairman of the fact finding committee, said that the committee would look into their allegation and would come up with accurate reports on the issue devoid of sentiments at the end of exercise.

Also, during the public hearing, the Chairman of Kaigbe Branch of Mada Development Association, Mr. Haruna Sani, accused the management of the institution for encroaching into some portions of land belonging to the Mada people.

He alleged that the institution had denied the Mada indigenes of employment opportunities into the college as required by law, calling on the committee to come up with recommendations that would address the issues.

News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) recalls that on Nov.2, Gov Tanko Al-Makura inaugurated the five-man fact finding committee to investigate activities of College of Education, Akwanga, from 2014 to October, 2017.
