Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, Ogun State gubernatorial race in 2019

Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka(GNI),a governorship aspirant in Ogun State had declared that he is still in the gubernatorial race in 2019.

GNU who made this statement at The Believe Movement(TBM) empowerment programme today at Ake Palace OF Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo the paramount of Egbaland,theme”Enhancing the social contract through values-driven Governance”.

His statement”let me state without equivocation that I am still in the 2019 gubernatorial race and move determined this time around to contest and win convincingly”.

My mission is to stimulate the unique potentials of our state,attract key partners in a constructive and collaborative development process that factors the participation of the people for their immediate and future benefit.

Adding that”the leadership I hope to provide from 2019 will encourage the thriving,support the striving and take care of the weak.

“I plan to conduct governance with vision,integrity,courage and strong leadership that will further put our dear state on the path of peace,opportunity,equity and prosperity for generations to come.

Speaking on leadership”leaders are either bereft of ideas,or chose to go on ego-trip of personal aggrandizement,thereby depriving the people of their basic needs.
He added,government exist for the welfare of citizens and a leader is conscripted to give the people what they need rather than what he feels.

Because of the people’s bitter experience with bad or vision less leadership,there is cynicism and distrust between the leader and led.

This lack of confidence and disconnection has been the license constantly explored by insincere and mediocre leaderships to misbehave,initiate bad policies,do whatever catches their personal fancy and misuse the taxpayer’s resources.

Dr. Reuben Abati,the former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to former President Goodluck Jonathan,said the greatest threat to the survival of democracy in Nigeria is “godfatherism”.
Abati who spoke as a keynote speaker at a “Public Dialogue and Empowerment Programme”, lamented that the process of recruiting leaders to position of power in Nigeria had been corrupted and bastardised by people who call themselves “godfathers.”

The Believe Movement is a socio-political movement and advocacy group put together by a two-time Governorship aspirant in Ogun State, Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI). Abati stressed that leaders should be chosen on merit, insisting that until the process of recruiting leaders into position of power is changed in Nigeria, the country may not experience any meaningful change, stressing that leadership must be on merit and purpose driven.

He said, it was regrettable that leadership had lost value in the country, lamenting that some of the leaders in Nigeria play “politics of the stomach”, giving their people peanuts while they fail to fulfil their responsibilities to the people who brought them in power.

“Leadership is very important but in this country, how do we recruit our leaders? Leaders’ formation is about catching them young, it is about giving the youths the opportunities to rule.”

“People often become leaders because they have godfathers or because they have powerful parents and when they get there, it becomes a problem. A leader’s responsibility in office is to be responsible to the people and not a godfather.”
According to him, “People should not choose their leaders based on godfathers or because of their powerful parents. Our people should be very careful of who they put in power.”

Abati also berated leaders in the country for allegedly failing to honour their social contracts to the people, saying “The people have expectations that government will serve them, that government will pursue their interests, that government will meet their needs, these are some of the reasons why Nigerians decided that the Military should not continue to rule them.
