No less than 57.82 Kilometres of inter and intracity roads have been constructed by the Obaseki-led government across Edo State in its eleven months in office.
The State Commissioner for Infrastructure, Osahon Amiolemen, made the disclosure on Monday during the presentation of the activities and achievements of his Ministry to the State House of Assembly.
This is even as he disclosed that N200 million internally generated revenue target was set for the Ministry, but that over N300 million was realized in the month of September.
Amiolemen who said the roads spread across the three senatorial districts of the State, noted that the roads ranged from single and dual carriage lanes.
According to him, the roads which connects communities, towns and villages were geared towards boosting the socio and economic activities of the communities in the State.
He also added that constrution work on about 255.6 kilometres of roads were ongoing, while 62 roads have been designed and that work have commenced on some already.
The Commissioner however discribed paucity of funds as a major constraint to the performance of his Ministry in road construction.
“Some have been treated and some have not been paid for. Looking at the number of roads we are supposed to do with the budgetary provisions in 2017. Paucity of funds makes it very difficult for us to really do what we intend doing because we are financially constrained in that area,” he said.
Amiolemen, therefore appealed for increase of budgetary allocation to the ministry in the 2018 fiscal year, adding; “We are appealing that in the next budget, we will have something that will go a long way in putting smile in the face of the people.”
