Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of  Oyo State has called for the  speedy completion of  the ongoing expansion of the Lagos -Ibadan express way as well as  other infrastructural projects in the South West Zone.

The governor made the call on Thursday  while receiving All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders at the second edition of the APC South West stakeholders meeting held  in Ibadan.

He specifically called for the completion of  the Ikere Gorge Dam in Iseyin which he stated has multi-dimensional benefits for agriculture , water supply and electricity.

The governor noted that the region must take advantage of  its  vast arable land and logistical position to become the food basket of Nigeria through integrated farming and value addition.

Ajimobi also challenged the APC leaders  to be ready to sacrifice their interest and ambition  for the common goal aimed at confronting the developmental challenges facing the zone.

The governor said  a recent report indicated that the south west region recorded the lowest rate of prospective voters in the voters’  registration exercise, noting that this was not good for the region.

He stated that the low rate of voters registration would affect the  chances of the party in the region.

In his remarks, Chief Bisi Akande,  a former Interim National Chairman of APC, said there was a high level of unity and understanding among the APC leaders.

Akande also said that the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, former Gov. Raji Fasola and Mrs Kemi Adeosun, Minister of Finance, had taken permission to be absent at the meeting.

Among those who attended the meeting were Governors  Akinwunmi Ambode, Rauf Aregbesola, Rotimi Akeredolu and Ibikunle Amosun of Lagos, Osun, Ondo and Ogun respectively.

Also at the meeting were former governors  Niyi Adebayo, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Adebayo Alao Akala and  Segun Osoba.
