Court’s verdict

A 29-year-old bus conductor, Ibrahim Adeyemi, who stole eight rams during the last Sallah, is to spend the next six months in prison, an  Ikeja Magistrates’ Court ruled on Wednesday.

The Magistrate, Mr J.A. Adigun, sentenced Adeyemi after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The accused, a resident of Toll Gate area of Lagos, urged the court to temper justice with mercy, attributing it to the handiwork of the devil.

He was, however, given an option of N30, 000 fine.

The magistrate said:“You are hereby sentenced to six months imprisonment with hard labour or an option of N30,000 fine.”

The prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awase had earlier told the court that the accused committed the offences on Sept. 2 at Ijaye in Ojokoro area of Lagos.

He said the accused and others now at large conspired and stole the eight rams belonging to the complainant, Mr Ismalia Mohammed.

“The accused was caught two days after committing the crime when he returned to steal another ram.”

The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
