The Coordinator of the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, Kano State Chapter, Alhaji Abubakar Umar, said on Tuesday in Kano that the council received 23 cases in the month of September, the highest in the year.

Umar told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that out of the 23 cases, 19 were on criminal issues, while four were categorised as civil cases.
He said that the council had resolved three civil cases and four criminal cases, while others were still pending in the courts.
Umar said that some of the complainants had, however, preferred out of court settlement.
The coordinator said that the council offered free services and advice to those who could not afford to pay for such services.
He explained that most of the civil cases were on inheritance, marriage and debt recovery.
