Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State:

No fewer than 62 schools, Non-Governmental Organisations and other associations participated in the celebration of Nigeria’s 57th independence anniversary organised by the Oyo State Government.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 50 secondary schools and 12 primary schools participated in the celebration held at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Ibadan on Sunday.

NAN also reports that event with the theme, `Youth and Economic Challenges : The Way Forward, ’ was attended by Gov. Abiola Ajimobi and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.

Also at the event were members of the State Executive Council as well as traditional rulers from Ibadan.

The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, was, however, absent.

The governor, who read President Muhammadu Buhari’s speech, stated that no state or nation could develop or witness progress in disunity and chaos.

He cautioned those promoting and fuelling discord across the country to desist, saying the nation was better positioned to make progress in its multi-ethnic and multi-religious diversities.
