Gov. Darius Ishaku of Taraba said in Jalingo on Sunday that residents of the section of Taraba that opted out of Southern Cameroun to be in Nigeria, were still happy with that decision.
“A part of Taraba was once part of Southern Caemoun before they voted to join Nigeria; such people are happy they took that decision and will never toy with Nigeria’s unity and oneness,” he said.
Ishaku spoke during a special Church programme held at Salvation Babtist Church, Jalingo to mark Nigeria’s 57 year’s of independence
He stressed the need for a united and strong nation, pointing out that everyone would benefit if Nigeria became developed and great.
Represented by Mr Abel Diah, the Speaker of the Taraba House of Assembly, Ishaku urged all tribes of the nation to work for Nigeria’s unity, and frowned at the unconstitutional means adopted by aggrieved Nigerians in pursuing their concerns.
“There are constitutional means we could use to pursue our demands without causing a breach of the peace,” he said.
Mr Gebon Kataps, an elder of the Church, in a remark, appealed to Nigerians to unite against injustice and corruption, saying that the two evils were standing on the path of Nigeria’s march to greatness.
“Secession is not the solution; all we want is a country where there is justice and fairness to all,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that special prayers were offered for peaceful coexistence of the nation.
