Aviation unions protesting FG’s plan to concession airports in Abuja on Thursday

Unions in the Nigerian aviation industry continue their protests over  the ongoing plan to concession Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos and Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja by the Federal Government in Abuja on Thursday.

The workers who are members of the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) carried different placards to signify their opposition to the concession plan during the peaceful protest which is still ongoing as at the time of filing in this report.

They were joined by some pensioners of the aviation parastatals.

Comrade Lanre Popoola of NUATE who led the protest however told journalists that the aviation unions will shut down the runways of the Abuja and Lagos if government refused to back off the concession plans in two weeks. He argued that previous concessions in the sector have not yielded any benefit to the country, citing the case of SAHCON.
