A Senior Magistrates’ Court sitting in Rijiyar Zaki, Kano, on Thursday granted a 26-year-old Civil Servant, Usman Abdu, a N200,000 bail for defamation of character.
The accused, Abdu of Danwawu Street, Fagge Quarters Kano, is facing a two-count charge of defamation of character and intentional insult.
The prosecutor, Insp. Yusuf Sale, told the court that on Sept.19, one Zaharadeen Abdullahi of Abbale Street, Fagge Quarters Kano, reported the matter at Fagge Police Division.
He said that on Sept.18, the accused defamed the complainant character and insulted him on facebook that he killed someone during his graduation ceremony after his study in England.
“That being a son of a Honourable Member of Kano State House of Assembly, he was not arrested,” he said.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened sections 391 and 155 of the penal code.
Senior Magistrate, Aminu Fagge granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200,000 with two reliable sureties.
Fagge said one of the sureties must present three years valid tax certificates and the second sureties should be the Father of the accused person and should reside in Fagge Quarters.
He also ordered that the accused and his relations should not chat or comment on any social media pending his trial.
NAN reports that the Magistrate also directed the accused and sureties to deposit two recent Passport-size photographs each to the Court.
The case was adjourned to Oct. 9, for mention.
