Governor Ganduje of Kano State

Officials of Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Weights and Measures Department have embarked on inspection of bakeries in Kano to verify the standard of their weighing machines.

The Zonal Coordinator of the ministry, Alhaji Auwal Uba made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Kano.

“We have verified some weighing machines at Royal Star Bakery, Watson Bakery, Oasis Bakery and 212 Bakery in Kano metropolis,” he said.

He said that the bakeries were found to be contravening various sections of the Weights and Measures Act 2004 of the Federation of Nigeria.

Uba advised the bakers to strictly adhere to the provisions of the law which stipulates that the standard weight of bread should be 225g and the quantity to be baked.

He warned bakers to desist from contravening the law, saying that appropriate legal action would be taken against offenders.

The zonal coordinator also advised the public to patronise only standard bakeries that were adhering to the weights and measures rules and regulations.
