2 siblings arraigned for alleged kidnapping, extortion

Ogunseye Olabode and his sister, Odunayo —  were on Monday brought before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly kidnapping a a man, Victor Adedeji and demanded a ransom from him.

The accused — Olabode, 34, and Odunayo, 34 — are being tried for conspiracy and kidnapping.

Both pleaded not guilty, but the prosecutor, Insp. Cousin Adams, told the court that the accused committed the offences on June 21 at Ipaja, a Lagos suburb.

He alleged that the siblings conspired and kidnapped Adedeji with the intention of extorting money from his relatives to secure his release.

The offences contravened Sections 271 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused may be sentenced to life imprisonment on conviction under the Criminal Law.

In her ruling, Magistrate Helen Omisore, granted each of the accused bail in the sum N200,000 with two responsible and gainfully employed sureties each in like sum.

She adjourned the case until Oct. 18 for trial.
