Fighters of Islamic-State:

The number of people killed in back-to-back attacks claimed by Islamic State militants in southern Iraq has risen to 84, health officials said on Friday.

A series of bombings on Thursday targeted security checkpoint and a restaurant on the outskirts of Nasiriyah town in the southern province of Dhi Qar.

Not less than 93 people were injured in the attacks according to the latest figures announced by Nasiriyah’s local health department.

Visitors to Irna were among those injured.

The attackers, who wear explosive belts, targeted the restaurant and security checkpoint.

Shortly after, two vehicles packed with explosives went off outside the restaurant and near the checkpoint.

Thursday’s attacks came amid series of setbacks the Islamic State extremist group suffered at the hands of U.S.-backed Iraqi forces.

Earlier this year, the terrorists lost their key stronghold of Mosul.

However they still control the town of Hawija in the oil-rich province of Kirkuk and western areas in the country’s largest province of Anbar.
