The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu has reiterated the ministry’s readiness to strengthen business education in all nation’s academic institutions to make graduates self-reliant and productive.
The News Aency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that Adamu said this when the Association of Business Educators of Nigeria (ABEN) led by its National President, Prof. Titus Umoru and other officials paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Abuja.
Mrs Chinenye Ihuoma, Director of Press in the ministry made this known in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday.
Adamu, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Arch. Sunny Echono, was quoted to have commended the association for its commitment to ensure inclusion in the nations education curriculum.
He noted that the study of business education would provide the right technical/vocational skills that would enable the youth become productively more self reliant.
He, therefore, pledged the ministry’s support to fast track the processes of enacting business education programme into law by the National Assembly.
Speaking earlier, Prof. Umoru lauded the Federal Government on its education policy which clearly specified the objectives of technical and vocational education.
Umoru called for the establishment of more technical colleges and adequate funding of the existing ones.
He also called for the introduction of entrepreneurship education into the business studies curriculum at the secondary level in order to complement its compulsory status as a general course at the tertiary level.
According to him, the association serves as a unifying body between institutions and the business community in Nigeria as well ad promotes business education through curriculum development.
The President, however, conferred and presented a certificate of membership (Fellow) to the minister.
The Association of Business Educators of Nigeria is a professional Business Teachers Association established 33 years ago at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, to regulate the teaching and practice of business education in Nigeria.
It spearheaded the establishment of National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB) Benin City, for the certification of products from the business and technical institution across the country.
