2019: Osinbajo disowns group asking him to contest presidency

Osinbajo:

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Saturday disowned a group which created a website for the purpose of supporting him as a candidate for the presidency in the 2019 general election.

In a short statement issued through Adeolu Akande, his spokesperson on Saturday, the Vice President urged Nigerians to disregard the activities of the faceless individuals.

The  group which describes itself as “Osinbajo Volunteers.” stated on its website that its mission is for Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to succeed his principal come 2019.

The group featured the activities of Osinbajo while he was Acting as the President on the website while asserting that it wants the Vice President to stand as presidential candidate in the 2019 election.

The Osinbajo Volunteers  stated that Nigeria now has a “leader (in Osinbajo) who has a clue on what to do and turn Nigeria the beloved to the land of our dreams”.

Though the group asked members of the public to volunteer for Osinbajo, it however made it clear on its website that they are not acting at the behest of the current Vice President.

“Note that Osinbajo did not endorse this volunteer group. We have never met him. We are strong believers in the fact that he is the right ruler for Nigeria and must create a peoples volunteer base for him,” the volunteer group said.

Nevertheless, the Vice President urged Nigerians not to give any regard to the group which he said is out to cause mischief.

“Please disregard this website created by faceless people for mischievous purposes. It has absolutely nothing to do with the Vice President,” the VP’s spokesperson, Akande, wrote on Twitter.
