WAFU Cup: Salisu picks Ezenwa, Eduwo, Ali, 15 others

Eighteen players, including two Super Eagles’ goalkeepers, have been invited to camp ahead of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Cup of Nations’ tournament scheduled  for between Sept. 9 and  Sept. 24 in Ghana.

Demola Olajire, Head of Communication, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said that Ikechukwu Ezenwa who was at post at the last two World  Cup qualifiers against Cameroon and his assistant, Dele Ajiboye, were part of the team.

Olajire said in a statement that Salisu Yusuf, Head Coach of the home –based Super Eagles, also invited Rabiu Ali and Kingsley Eduwo.

They scored goals in the 2-0 victory by Nigeria against Benin Republic in Kano.

He also invited  the following defenders: Stephen Eze (FC IfeanyiUbah); Emmanuel Ariwachukwu (Akwa United); Chima Akas (Enyimba FC); Osas Okoro (Rangers International); Adeleye Olamilekan (FC IfeanyiUbah);  and Daniel James (Plateau United).

Also, the midfielders invited by the coach are: Afeez Aremu (Akwa United); Ifeanyi Ifeanyi (Akwa United); Rabiu Ali (Kano Pillars); Samuel Mathias (El-Kanemi Warriors) and Destiny Ashadi (Katsina United).

The head coach also extended invitation to the following from the attack squad: Gabriel Okechukwu (Akwa United); Kingsley Eduwo (Lobi Stars); Peter Eneji (Plateau United); Ubong Friday (Akwa United) and  Anthony Okpotu (Lobi Stars).

Olajire also said that the team would leave Abuja on Sept. 7 for Ghana.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nigeria will be playing in Group A alongside the host: Ghana, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, Mali, Mauritania, Guinea and Guinea Bissau.

They will be playing their matches in Sekondi-Tekoradi.

The countries in Group B are: Senegal, Liberia, Burkina Faso, Niger Republic, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, Benin Republic and Cape Verde and will be playing  their  matches in Cape Coast, Olajire said.
