Osinbajo: not taking over negotiations with ASUU

The presidency has described news reports that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will take over the leadership of Federal Government negotiations with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU over the ongoing strike of the university teachers as inaccurate.

Laolu Akande, spokesperson for the Vice President said in a statement on Friday that media reports seemed to have misrepresented what Labor & Employment Minister, Dr. Chris Ngige meant when he spoke with reporters about the negotiations after the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.

Media reports had indicated that the Labour Minister will take over negotiations aimed at ending the over two weeks old strike of the university teachers.

“The Vice President had a discussion after FEC with both the Labour Minister and Education Minister Malam Adamu Adamu around the issues, but has not taken over the negotiations as widely reported. Both Ministers will continue to lead the FG- ASUU talks,” the presidency said while disputing the media reports.

The Federal Government however assures that it will continue to diligently pursue a prompt resolution of this dispute and is confident the matter would be resolved.
