Nigeria’s biggest opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has never hidden the fact that it has zoned its 2019 presidential ticket to the Northern part of the country.

This implies that to be qualified to contest to represent the PDP in the 2019 presidential election; you must be from one of the 19 states classified as being in the Northern part of Nigeria.

Now, Ekiti State is certainly not one of those states.

But the perennial popularity seeking Ekiti governor, Ayo Fayose will not allow the zoning arrangement hold him back as he stormed the Eagle Square, Abuja venue of PDP National Convention dressed in vest announcing his interest in being the next occupier of Aso Rock presidential villa.

He was accompanied by a coterie of boys who carried placards of ‘ Ayo Fayose For President 2019.’

“Nigerians have entered one chance in this government. But we can assure you that the APC has entered one term and they have to go,”  Fayose, who is the chairman of the PDP governors’ forum said while he was given the opportunity to talk at the convention.

“We are going back to our villa. God will be with us. Those people there, at Aso Rock, they don’t know what they are doing,” said the governor who had earlier launched his presidential campaign on the social media, though Nigeria’s electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission is yet to blow the whistle for commencement of campaign for the next general elections.

“Out of that one chance, we will give you plenty chances. We make mistakes but our ability to correct them if what is important. It is time to arise and shine.

“Shake the persons next to you and tell him or her congratulations for 2019. I don’t know about you but as for me, I am in Aso Rock already,” the governor said while asserting that he is confident that the PDP will take power back from the ruling APC in 2019.

What did leaders of PDP who had insisted that they will strictly adhere to the zoning arrangement think about Fayose’s ambition?

For now, just like some other Nigerians, they must be taking Fayose for a joker. and such, see no need to caution the governor to abandon his fantasy.
