Residents of Aba, Abia’s commercial hub, have urged Gov. Okezie Ikpezu to cause Abia State Road Management Agency (ABROMA) to resume road maintenance to reduce gridlocks.

The residents made the call in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Aba on Monday.

They said that the incessant rainfall had increasing the number of potholes on roads in the city, adding that ABROMA’s was worsening the matter.

Hope Efiong, a resident, observed that the gridlock from Osisioma Expressway junction to Aba Main Motor Park, was caused by potholes.

He, therefore, appealed Ikpezu to ask ABROMA to return to Aba and start patching up the potholes, to ease the stress of road users on Aba roads.

Effiong said that road users in Aba would have some relief, ABROMA returned to work.

Onweremmadu Nwoke, another resident, noted that road users had resorted to using the few motorable roads in the city due to the ongoing construction work on Faulks Road.

Nwoke said that the gridlocks consumed many useful man hours, hence the urgent need for ABROMA intervention.

He further urged the governor to take urgent action to ease the stress Aba residents were currently experiencing.

Nnanna Egwu, in his remarks, commended Ikpeazu for his determination to improve the condition of Aba.

He noted that since the governor meant well with his road rehabilitation programme in Aba, it would be counter-productive for him to allow the traffic condition resulting from the projects to continue.(NAN)
