Senator Magnus Abe and some members of the National Assembly under the canopy of All Progressive Congress in Rivers State have slammed the manner the leadership of the party conducted the Local Government Congress today, Saturday, July 29 in the 23 local government areas of the state.

The party in the state announced its decision to conduct Local government congress after a stakeholders meeting held in Port Harcourt.

In a press statement endorsed by State Chairman of the party, Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, after the meeting, announced the venues and locations of where the congress would be conducted in the 23 Local government areas of Rivers state and that those concerned had been intimated.

However, Senator Magnus Abe, representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, picked holes in the manner in which the congress was conducted.

Abe who claimed he was not invited to the stakeholders meeting, alleged that details of the modalities for the conduct of the congress were hidden from some bigwigs of the party including him and other members of the National Assembly.

He said, “We got information that leaders of the party were meeting and we went there only for us to get there and found out the meeting has ended. Then someone said no, that they relocated the meeting to the party secretariat. Here we are at the party secretariat. No one is here. It is under lock and key.

“But you ask how can leaders of a party be holding a meeting and members of the party at the National Assembly are not in attendance? The leaders who came to supervise the election were hold up in a hotel in the capital city of Port Harcourt.

It was gathered however that the loyalists of the Transport Minister, Chibuike Amaechi are already emerging as delegates arising from the Congress, thus confirming that the political crisis between Senator Abe and former Governor Amaechi is far from being over.
