Nigerian Army has announced the promotion of over six thousand soldiers engaged in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgents group in North East Nigeria.
In a statement released to the media on Tuesday, spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Sani Usman said the special promotion was approved by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General TY Buratai, on Tuesday 25th July 2017.
Those promoted include soldiers serving in Operation LAFIYA DOLE to various ranks between Lance Corporals to Warrant Officers in the Nigerian Army.
The breakdown of the beneficiaries of the special promotion are as follows: Staff Sergeants – Warrant Officers –329, Sergeants – Staff Sergeants –371. Corporals – Sergeants –707, Lance Corporals – Corporals –1,290, Privates – Lance Corporals –3,502.
In all, a total of 6,199 were promoted in the exercise.
“The COAS congratulates the beneficiaries and urged them to increase the tempo of the ongoing clearance operations of the Boko Haram terrorists in the North East,” Usman added.
