FILE: Site of a collapsed building

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Tuesday confirmed the death of one person in another building collapsed in Lagos.

Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, the NEMA spokesman, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

Farinloye also confirmed that 13 people, including an 11-year-old boy, who had his two legs chopped off, were rescued alive in the collapsed building.

He said that the incident happened at Tokunbo, off Odunfa Road, Parrena Street, Lagos Island at about 3.00 p.m.

Farinloye explained that the deceased was an elderly person who sustained head injury during the incident.

“The boy and other 13 people rescued alive have been taken to the General Hospital, Marina.

“The rescue operation is still ongoing and we will have to work till day break to save other people who are still underneath the building,” Farinloye said.

He said that the rescue operation was being handled by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Unit, Nigeria Police, Lagos State Ambulance Service and the State Fire Service.
