Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State

Gov. Nasiru el-Rufa’i of Kaduna State on Sunday appealed to parents to inculcate fear of God in children to ensure decent society and facilitate national growth.

He made the plea at award presentation ceremony for Qur’anic memorisation and Islamic quiz completion held in Zaria.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the competition was organised by Rep. Abbas Tajuddeen (APC Zaria) for schools in 13 wards of his constituency.

el-Rufa’i, represented by Sheik Hussaini Tsoho-Ikara, Executive Secretary, Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, said the call was necessary because fear of God was a key to success.

While stressing the importance of religious education in shaping peoples’ life, el-Rufa’i observed that in life, there was nothing better than engaging in the services of the holy Qur’an.

“Recitation and memorisation of the holy Qur’an is one thing while putting it into practice is another, therefore, I urge us all to make practical use of the holy Qur’an’s recitation.

“If we can make practical use of it, many of our personal and societal problems generally would have been solved,’’ he said.

In his speech, the chairman, All Progressive Congress (APC), Zaria Local Government, Alhaji Shu’aibu Abubakar-Haske, described the competition as a “reformatory concept.’’

Abubakar-Haske said the competition showed that Tajuddeen had a formidable team who usually put him on the path of success.

He said the competition had provided the participants the opportunity to broaden their scope in the area of not only Qur’anic memorisation but also Islamic jurisprudence.

The Chairman, Organising Committee of the competition, Alhaji Salisu Ubaidullah, said the competition was segmented into two phases, including; Qur’an memorisation and quiz on Qur’an, Hadith and Fiqh.

He said those who took first, second and third position in each of the 13 wards were selected for a final round where the best winners emerged.

Ubaidullah said the competition which started from January to March was not the first edition but it started since 2014.

Responding, Tajudden appreciated the organising committee for a job well done and urged them to sustain the tempo in the subsequent competition.

He urged the participants to use the knowledge acquired wisely while assuring them that there would be neither a winner nor a looser in the competition.
