The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kaduna State, on Monday said it had so far registered 40, 317 eligible voters in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration Exercise.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the exercise began nationwide on April 27, ahead of the 2019 elections.

The exercise, primarily taking place at the headquarters of the 774 local council areas, is expected to end two months before the general polls.

Briefing journalists on Monday shortly after a meeting with stakeholders, Mr Nick Dazang, the INEC Administrative Secretary in the state, said that eight additional voters’ registration centres had been created.

Dazang said that the action was to address the challenges of congestion and distance faced by eligible voters seeking to register.

He explained that the decision to increase the registration centres was taken by INEC headquarters at a review meeting in Kaduna.

The administrative secretary disclosed that 302 additional registration centres were created nationwide.

“After due consideration, Kaduna state was allocated additional eight centres by the commission,” Dazang said.

According to him, the new centres will only be functional till August 11, after which they will be closed down.

The new centres are situated at Rigasa, Gonin Gora, Tudun Nupawa, Ungwan Shanu, Ladduga, Gidan Waya, Katugal and Kwarbai ‘B’.

“Registration will commence at these additional centres from Monday, July 10 and end on August 11, 2017.

“The commission urges the good people of Kaduna state to make good use of this opportunity by coming out enmasse to participate in the exercise, ” Dazang said.
