A 29-year-old man, Yusuf Ismail, was on Friday docked before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court in Osun over alleged impersonation.
Ismail is facing a five-count charge bordering on fraud, impersonation and conspiracy.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Akingbade Sunday, told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 3, 2014 at about 10:00 a.m. at Iloko Street in Osogbo.
Sunday said the accused conspired with one person still at large, to fraudulently obtain the sum of N1.3 million from one Taiwo Ajibola.
He said the accused paraded himself to be a police sergeant in the Gombe Command, knowing it to be false.
The prosecutor said the accused collected N1.3 million from the complainant, with the intent to sell a plot of land to him, that he did not own.
He said the offence contravened Sections 516, 419, 422,109 and 192 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 34, Volume 11, Laws of Osun, 2003.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against him.
Counsel to the accused, Mr Najite Okobie, prayed the court to admit his client to bail in the most liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Mrs Mary Awodele, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 and two sureties in like sum.
Awodele said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, with evidence of tax payment and two passport-sized photographs, attached with an affidavit of means.
The case has been adjourned until Aug. 21, for hearing.
