A 44-year-old man, Sunday Adikitor, on Wednesday appeared before a Jos Upper Area Court sitting in Kasuwan Nama, for allegedly leasing a family land to MTN Nigeria, without consultation.

Adikitor, a resident of Jebu in Bassa Local Government Area, was accused of leasing the family land to the communication outfit without consulting or seeking the consent of other members of the family.

Two family members – Mrs. Laraba Gyang and Mariam Adikitor – who filed the complaint at the court, alleged that the plaintiff leased the land for N5.9 million in addition to two mobile phones.

Counsel to the plaintiffs, Mr O. B. James, told the court that the defendant also collected N500,000 from the company to erect a telecom mast on the land.

James argued that Adikitor was a grandson of the family, who had no right to tamper with any family property without proper consultation.

He prayed the court to declare that the accused was not a member of the family and was, therefore, not qualified to have entered into such contractual agreement.

The judge, Mr Yahaya Mohammed, after listening to his prayer, adjourned the matter to July 27.
