Rivers Police Commissioner, Zaki Ahmed, has ordered thorough investigation into the cause of  death of the family of six in Rumuosi community in Obio-Akpor local government area of the state.

Neighbours suspected that the family which included a seven month old toddler died from inhalation of generator fume.

But Spokesman of the Rivers Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, said despite the generally held notion that six members of the family may have died due suffocation from generator fume, the Police homicide department will nevertheless investigate the cause of their death.

Though it is believed that the deceased died on Saturday, Police said their decomposing bodies were discovered only on Monday when neighbours noticed that none of the victims had been seen for three days.

The head of family is one Kinaka Wosu from Emohua Local Government areas of the state.

Omoni said the actual cause of death of members of the family can only be known through autopsy.

DSP Omoni therefore advised members of public to volunteer useful information that can unravel mystery behind the death of the family of six.

Pending the outcome of the Police inquest, the Police Command advised members of the Public to locate their generators away from their dwellings to avoid suffocation from the poisonous carbon monoxide.

Meanwhile, the bodies of victims had been deposited at the morgue.
