The Kano State Government has ordered Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, to place standard waste bins in its wards and premises.
The Commissioner for Environment, Dr Ali Makoda, gave the order on Friday when the state committee on sanitation monitored the monthly environmental sanitation exercise at the hospital.
He said that even though the premises of the hospital were neat, all the waste disposal bins in the hospital were substandard.
Makoda, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Sagir Wali, also directed the hospital management to cut the weeds in some locations in the premises of the hospital.
Responding, Malam Sani Ahmed, the Head of Department, Primary Healthcare Unit of the hospital, said that the hospital management had placed an order for the waste bins.
He also said that the management had also directed those in charge of the hospital’s environment to remove the weeds in the identified areas so as to have cleaner surroundings.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state sanitation committee also monitored the monthly sanitation exercise at workplaces, markets and motor parks across Kano on Friday.
