Justice Raliatu Adebiyi of an Ikeja High Court in Lagos State  has admitted as evidence, a kitchen knife used in the murder of a housewife, Mrs Stella Godwin, by another housewife, Mrs Stella Gilbert.

The court also admitted in evidence other items that were directly linked to the murder case.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Godwin was allegedly stabbed to death in the chest and arm with the knife by her namesake and neighbour during a fight.

The accused person and the deceased are residents of No. 59, Ojora St., Ajegunle, Lagos.

According to the State Prosecutor, Mrs O.A. Olugasa, the fatal fight was caused by an argument over a kitchen table, belonging to a former neighbour, who had moved out of the building.

During the proceedings on Thursday, Olugasa also presented Godwin’s autopsy report and the kitchen table, that cause the fight, as exhibits to the court.

Insp. Fatai Popoola, the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) in the case, was also led in evidence by Olugasa.

Popoola explaining his investigative role in the case said the exhibits (a kitchen knife and a wooden kitchen table) were transferred to him when he took over the case file.

“I prepared a coroner’s form for the autopsy to be carried out on the deceased.

“The coroner form was given to a pathologist to conduct and prepare the autopsy report,’’ he said.

After Popoola’s evidence, Gilbert’s lawyer, Mr I.E. Isu, declined to cross-examine the police officer.

Justice Adebiyi adjourned the case until Oct. 4 and Oct.5.
