The Lebanese security forces have foiled a number of Daesh (ISIS) terror plots that were intended to inflict “the highest number of casualties possible.”
According to a statement by the General Security on Friday, seven suspects of different Arab nationalities were arrested and they allegedly admitted to planning a series of suicide bombings, assassinations and attacks.
“Four of the suspects were arrested recently, while three others were in custody,’’ the statement added.
The General Security carried out a number of raids in search for the suspects.
An explosive belt worn by one of the suspects was dismantled.
“The seven-member Daesh network was communicating with their handlers from different Lebanese areas.
“Particularly the notorious Palestinian refugee camps of Ain al-Hilweh, Burj Al-Barajneh and Shatila,’’ the statement said.
The statement added that the suspects took orders from fellow extremists in the camps.
