A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Kano on Thursday ordered the remand of a 57-year-old man, Adamu Muhammad, in prison custody for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl.
Adamu who resides at Tudun Murtala Quarters Kano, is standing trial on a one-count charge of rape, contrary to section 283 of the penal code.
The prosecutor, Mr Rufa’i Inusa, told the Court that on March 13, one Aminu Safiyanu of the same address reported the case to Gwagwarwa police Division Kano.
Inusa said that on the same date at about 7.30pm Safiyanu discovered that Adamu has been deceiving and luring his 12-year-old younger sister into an uncompleted building situated at Tudun Murtala Quarters Kano.
“Adamu had unlawful sexual intercourse with her several times,” he told the court.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against him.
The Chief Magistrate, Muhammad Jibril, ordered the remand of the accused in prison custody and adjourned the case till April 20, for mention.(NAN)
