Accident kills 11 in Kogi

Eleven persons have been killed in a ghastly motor accident that occurred yesterday at Ohiana village along Okene-Auchi road in Kogi State.

An eye witness said the accident which occured around 6am yesterday was caused by a head on collision between a Toyota Hiace Hilux bus with Registration No: Delta AYB 939 XP, belonging to Big Joe Transport Company and a truck loaded with cement.

Confirming the report, FRSC Okene unit commander, Sunday Ogungbemi, said preliminary investigation reveals that the Toyota Hiace Hilux Bus which had 22 passengers on board was heading to Warri from Abuja when the accident occurred.

Ogungbemi disclosed that the accident might have been caused by over-speeding by the bus driver who lost control and crashed into the trailer truck that was coming from Okpella.

He further disclosed that his unit carried out the evacuation of the victims, said the 11 corpses have been deposited at the Okene General Hospital morgue, while the remaining 11 passengers that survived sustained various degrees of injuries and have been taken to the same hospital for medical attention.

The unit commander called on road users to be more careful during the Easter Season and advised passengers not to leave their fate in the hands of drivers.
