Chief Abiodun Alabi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), has urged the newly inaugurated local government caretaker committee members in Oyo Sate to work toward the development of rural areas.
Alabi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday that though the tenure of the committee members was short, it could be used to promote meaningful development.
“Though the tenure of the caretaker committee members in their respective council areas is short a good administrator can use the short period for meaningful development.
“People are watching them and they will be assessed based on their contributions in the respective council areas.
“So the caretaker committee members should not see their appointment as an opportunity to embezzle the token allocation allocated to their local government but an opportunity to serve the people and make a mark.
“I enjoin them to use the three months to register a good name and demonstrate integrity through laudable projects that will make the people to remember them after their tenure,’’ he said.
Alabi further admonished politicians and relatives of the appointees to steer clear of the new council officials and allow them to work instead of making unreasonable monetary request.
He attributed the failure of some past council chairmen to the demands of unscrupulous politicians and relatives.
NAN reports that Gov Abiola Ajumobi on Friday inaugurated caretaker chairmen for 28 Local Governments and 27 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
Though the state has 33 local government and 35 LCDAs, five local governments and six LCDAs were exempted due to an ongoing litigation.
The litigation forced the state government to postpone the local government election earlier scheduled for Feb 11.
