A Mararaba Upper Area Court, Nasasarwa State, on Friday ordered the remand of 25-year-old man, Kabiru Adamu, for allegedly stealing and damaging neighbour’s property worth N149, 000, the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports.
The judge, Ibrahim Shekarau, ordered that the defendant be remanded in Keffi Prison for alleged theft, to allow for further investigation.
Shekarau, however, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50, 000, with one surety in like sum for criminal trespass, mischief and intimidation.
He said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, must be of reputable character and have a substantive means of livelihood.
The defendant, who resides at Sabon Gari, Mararaba, is facing a four-count charge of criminal trespass, intimidation, mischief and theft.
Earlier, Sgt. Steve Kwaza, the prosecutor told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 25 at about 2: p.m.
“The defendant entered the house of one Innocent Emamiegbor, who happens to be his neighbour, stole and damaged some of his property.
“According to the complainant, Emamiegbor, the defendant damaged two aluminum windows, valued at N40, 000, one burglary proof, valued at N20, 000.
“He did not only damage the items, but also stole the complainant’s Sumec generator, valued t N60, 000, one Itel 1503 cell phone, valued at N24, 000 and N5, 000 cash,” Kwaza stated.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 348, 327, 288 and 397 of the Penal Code.
Adamu had pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him, while the judge adjourned the case tilL April 12, for hearing.
