A former Senate majority leader, Ali Ndume was on Wednesday suspended by the upper chamber for six months.
The suspension of the Senator followed recommendations of the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges on the two motions he raised on the certificate scandal involving Senator Dino Melaye and controversies over duty payment on a Range Rover jeep linked to Senate President Bukola Saraki last week.
Ndume had in the Point of Order notified members of the allegation against Saraki, over the purchase of a Range Rover Jeep, which was said to have cost the Senate N298 million, with the Customs duties unpaid.
He also drew the attention of the Senate to the alleged certificate forgery against Senator Dino Melaye.
The Senate had subsequently mandated its Committee on Ethics and Privileges to investigate the allegations.
The Committee cleared Saraki and Melaye of the allegations after a public hearing on the issue last Monday.
But in a report submitted to the whole house on Wednesday by Senator Sam Anyanwu, its Chairman, the Committee recommended that Ndume should be suspended for one year for failing to do due diligence before bringing up matters at plenary.
The Senators, however, decided to suspend the Borno State lawmaker for only six weeks following pleadings from two senators.
